FRIDGE ART FAIR

David Waage

David Waage is from Fergus Falls, Minnesota, where he first picked up a camera at age 16 to photograph the gnarly old oak trees in the front yard, and he was immediately hooked on photography. Waage was educated at Fergus Falls Community College and California Lutheran University, where he studied photography under James Hugunin, who later taught at the Art Institute of Chicago. He also worked as a photographer in College Relations under Mary Hekhuis.

Waage obtained a Master's Degree at London Business School, and in 2000 founded a photography studio in New York with Carlmike Lagasca.

Working together and individually, his photographs were exhibited in a show at The Museum of Modern Art in New York for the "Life of the City" exhibit in 2001. His photos were also exhibited in shows in Minnesota -- "Cuba Waits" at the Wesley A. Waage Fine Arts Center -- in Los Angeles at the Kwan Fong Gallery at California Lutheran University, and 'Glimpses of India" at Gallery 49 in New York. His "Syrian Refuge" series was exhibited at High Line Nine Gallery in New York in September, 2020, and was later part of the Ad Art Show at the Oculus, World Trade Center, New York, in May 2021.

His editorial photography has appeared in 100+ pages in international publications based in Berlin, Amsterdam, and Tokyo. In 2008 Waage traveled to Beirut, Lebanon, and later to Syria, before the start of the war. He returned to Beirut many times over the next ten years as he worked on the "Syrian Refuge" series.
